17/03/2022 – Citizens’ contributions to the Future of Europe
The Conference on the future citizens’ panels is the most recent addition to the repertoire of EU citizen participation mechanisms. While some praise the EU for adopting the most recent standard of citizen’s involvement in collective decision making, others argue that the methods remain very diverse, being this innovation unlikely to be institutionalised. In any event, hundreds of events are being organised across the EU and giving citizens opportunities to collectively think about the EU.
This networking workshop will gather students, citizens, academics, civil society representatives and journalists to produce a citizens’ evaluation of the ongoing citizens’ assembly. This evaluation will build upon OpenEUDebate report for the Conference on the Future of Europe (COFE) on its deliberative activity by inviting participants to join our students and academics in a series of roundtable discussions (‘world cafés’). A representative from each table will report results to a panel of experts who will discuss the citizens’ reports and add their own expertise. OpenEUDebate will assemble the comments into a final report to be sent to all participants.
